Rory: After an adventuress day of sight-seeing, one particular experience was my favorite: the Palatine Hill. To my surprise, the Palatine Hill was much more grand compared to the descriptions in textbooks. Its view is strikingly beautiful and gives a vantage point like no other. Aside from the view, its historical significance and various stories and legends intrigued me. Having never been to Rome, the Palatine Hill, in both its historical and physical aspects, impressed me. I hope to return in later years!
Hannah: We started off the day by grudgingly pulling ourselves away from our beds after deep sleep. After getting ready for the day and eating breakfast at the hotel, we walked to the “birthday cake,” a monument to Vittorio Emanuel, who unified Italy. It had several wide layers of white stone, with beautiful statutes on columns and the rooftops. Although it does not fit in with the rest of Italy’s architecture, it was still a marvel. After more exploring in the Roman Forum, we settled on the Palatine hill for a picnic lunch. Many of us ate assorted panini and other goodies that enticed an entourage of hungry pigeons and a seagull Ceci named Thanos. The best part of the day had to be relaxing in the shade eating and watching Fralick and Sheppard chasing off Thanos. We continued by eating gelato and visiting the Colosseum. Overall, it was good day for sightseeing and immersing in Italian culture.
