The day started with a lovely bus ride to CBC, an art restoration center. We met a man who specialized in restoring paintings from around Italy. He explained how he restored the pieces and showed us one of his current projects, a surprise double-sided painting from a church in Viterbo. Next was lunch where we all had fresh pizza and gelato. The next stop was Hadrian’s villa, the emperor’s of Rome escape from the city, and we were given free time to wander the complex. We explored the ruins that used to be bathhouses and temples, and stopped by a pond with some fish and turtles. Before dinner, we went to the Trevi Fountain, where we tossed euros into it over our shoulder for good luck before shopping for our last souvenirs. Dinner had an assortment of new and delectable appetizers including eggplant balls, fried fish balls with pesto, crackers with buffalo mozzarella cheese, and tomato paste cake called panzanella. For the entrees people enjoyed their meals of meatballs, salads, or pasta with cherry tomatoes. On our way back to our hotel we stopped for our last Roman gelato. Some had strawberry and lemon while others had nutella and stracciatella. Wrapping up our day we packed our things and enjoyed our last sleep at Villa Riari.
