The day started off with a very nice, and thankfully indoors (as I am as red as a lobster right now), museum tour. It was filled to the brim with statues of every size, backstory and marble type. My favorite ones were the busts with a contrasting color marble for their toga. After another hour of exploring and gaping at the beautiful works of art, we found ourselves on the top of the museum. The view was amazing to say the least, and to prove that I bet if you check any of the girls’ on this trip’s instagram after we get back, there will be the proof. It was an overview of the city, an almost summary of what we’ve already seen but also reminding us of what we’ve yet to see, which excited all of us. Next, as we greeted the brief onslaught of rain, we made our way towards a few stops. The church of St. Nicholas in Chains was so cool to tour. The inside of the church was beautiful, of course, but the catacomb-esk tunnels underneath it was what really excited us. Next we stopped at some Republican period temples in the Forum Boarium, which are the oldest type of temples in the city, and after some historical overview, we all posed for a picture. As the picture was about to be taken, an adorable older lady with bright purple hair decided she wanted to photobomb us, to which we all responded by inviting her into the actual picture. Then we made our way over to the Becca della Verita (Mouth of Truth), where a very creepy looking stone face was the main attraction. (The legend said that if you tell a lie with your hand above the mouth, your hand will be bitten off). And finally we made it to the sight of the day: the church of St. Cecilia (me). Inside, we saw the incredibly life-like statue of her, curled in a half fetal position with a cloth draped over her body and covering her face. I looked great, to say the least! Anyway, we then went back to our rooms to rinse our feet of the mud that we kicked up in the rain before we headed out to yet another dinner in the best place on Earth.
